The Art of Reconstruction:

In March of 2005, a group from Calvary Community Church of Westlake, California went to Sri Lanka to help rebuild after the Tsunami.  The team oversaw the construction of 9 houses on 5 lots in a village out side Hikkidua, in the South East of the Island.  During their two-week stint in country, the members of the church made good headway by hiring a large force of local skilled laborers and craftsmen, however they had to leave the final results in the hands of a local NGO (Non-Government Organization).

While they were leaving, Western NGOs and Volunteers like themselves were flooding into the country.  The upsurge of construction in Sri Lanka following the Tsunami and skyrocketing world concrete prices rendered the remaining budget left by the team exhausted before the houses where complete, though earlier estimates showed it would be more than sufficient.

Though the Church raised additional funds to absorb the deficit in conjunction with the NGO, further complications arose.

The Team visited the Village in December in order to determine the next best step to take to further reconstruction.  They where met with a mixed reception.
